WHAT kanchi MERCHANTS DID ?
To have a upper hand in Business a few of the kanchi Merchants took the drastic steps and forced the weavers for use the category 2 and category 3 jari and stopped taking about "jari" but started mentioning "Pure silk" at the place of "Pure jari".
The result, if a merchant in bangalore is selling pure silver jari saree [category 1] for RS. 25,000 they started selling similarly looking category 2 & 3 sarees for RS. 18000 through they can sell it for RS. 12000 itself, because if they quote leser than that the buyer would start doubting. Thus the customers got impressed and kanchi Phobia developed but dear customer the category 2 and 3 sarees are very much available in bangalore also but at their resonable and respective prices.

The Society was formed during 70's when a group of 50 weavers decided to form a society and approached late Mr M G Ramachandran to lend his name to this society. Mr. MGR at this request lent his title "VALLALAR". to be used as the weavers were also the followers of the renouned Tamil Saint Vallalar Swamigal.
In this period of four decades the society has had a phenomenl growth to shelter around 8,000 member looms and manufacturing and marketing of kancheepuram sarees.
